Brief
The purpose of this assessment was to create a variety of advertisements using photography and strategic use of photoshop. I chose to promote an environmentally friendly 3d printing filament, as the advertising space around eco filament is currently pretty sparse and fairly formulaic. This project provided a significant learning experience, particularly in navigating the intricacies of 3D printing as a technical hobby and mastering the nuances of Photoshop. The project required creating 3 photographic compositions that would be then used in a number of ways.
Deliverables
The brief required 3 original photographs, that were taken and processed by me in Photoshop, 3 magazine ads and 3 digital ads, including a half page, a sky scraper and panorama layouts.
Tools and programs
Photoshop was used for all of the image processing and InDesign was used to compose the final advertisements.
Design Process
Noticing that there wasn’t much in the way of particularly enticing marketing for 3d printing filament, I chose to use Polymaker’s Polyterra filament, which claims that they will plant a plant for every spool of filament sold. This was the most affordable and economically friendly filament on the market at the time. After some ideation, the idea that appealed the most strongly to me was one of a plant growing out of a spool of filament. I took the photos in my home using my iPhone, and carefully composited the below images.
